By purchasing a riding permit through any of our 3 volunteer-run snowmobile clubs, you’ll gain full access to New Brunswick’s extensive network of interconnected and expertly groomed trails, including nearly 700 kms of wide open Restigouche wilderness to explore.
Up first is the Restigouche Timber Trail Club based out of Balmoral. This group offers frequent grooming services of trails as far south as the Island Lake Club, as well as reliable and regular updates on grooming operations on their social media. Your second option is the Restigouche Snowmobile Club located along Trail 17 just outside of Campbellton. With this group, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take part in community fundraisers, live music, wing nights and other seasonal activities throughout the year.
Last but certainly not least, the Kedgwick Snowmobile Club is another great option if you’re looking for like-minded snowmobilers in our region. Start Your Adventure
Now that you’re all settled in with your club of choice and a riders permit, it’s finally time to suit up and hit the trails!
New Brunswick’s vast network of forest, mountain and coastal trails touches every corner of the province, and Restigouche alone boasts over 675 kms of trails reaching from Campbellton to all major population centers, along with plenty of rest stops, restaurants, fill-up spots and other accommodations to be found along the way.
Before you leave, be sure to check out the New Brunswick Snowmobile Federation’s website. Using their interactive map, you can get real-time updates on the grooming conditions of every trail in the province! Their map will help you stay informed both on and off the trail, and is an invaluable resource for avid snowmobilers and newcomers alike.
If you’re heading out from Campbellton, you’ll likely begin at either the Quality Hotel & Conference or the Comfort Inn, both of which offer snowmobile-friendly parking. From the shadow of Sugarloaf Mountain, you can either head west along Trail 17 or south along Trail 22.
Heading west on Trail 17, you’ll find a scenic route leading to a few local accommodations, including the Microbrewery Sanfar & Resort cottages and Appalaches Domes and Spa if you’re searching for places to relax, recharge and refuel.
This trail ultimately leads to Kedgwick, where it then diverges towards either Saint-Quentin or as far west as Edmundston. If you head to Kedgwick, the nearby Chalet Restigouche is another great option for those seeking comfortable and snowmobile-friendly lodging.
Heading east from Kedgwick will have you riding into the heart of Mount Carleton Provincial Park from Trail 19, which by itself is home to more than 30 kms of trails to shred through. Top up on gas and grab a bite to eat at the Lodge-Café before enjoying the stunning scenery of the tallest peak in the Maritimes.
If you opt to go south out of Campbellton along Trail 22, you’ll be treated to the lovely views of Sugarloaf Mountain and Sugarloaf Park as you make your way towards Dalhousie. Once you reach a fork in the trail, you’ll have a choice to make: heading north will take you through Dalhous, while the southern trail will lead you towards the central part of the province.
On your way south, you can branch off and find top-notch comfort and lodging at Herons Nest Cottages in Charlo. These picturesque cottages are available to rent year-round and offer a quaint resting spot on your Restigouche snowmobiling adventure.
Continuing on the south-bound route will take you past a few rest stops, such as the Relais St. Maure Clubhouse, before reaching Trail 22’s penultimate destination: the Island Lake Lodge. This year-round escape offers cottage rentals in the heart of the New Brunswick wilderness and is among the most popular snowmobiling destinations in the province.
The Lodge also acts as an intersection between several trails heading in multiple directions, making it the perfect junction to start the next leg of your journey. Explore Mount Carleton, venture into the Christmas Mountains, or loop back towards Campbellton; our great outdoors is your winter playground!
